Job Summary
As a Director of Software Engineering you will utilize strong management and technical competencies to set objectives and develop strategies for the Software Engineering group. You will provide direction and leadership to subordinate level managers and Engineering professionals focused on testing and debugging of operating systems that run NetApp storage applications. These committed teams develop enhancements to existing products, as well as develop new products. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market.
Essential Functions
· Design, develop and implement operating policies that ensure the operations’ effective achievement of objectives.

· Develop and approve exceptions to policy tied directly to area of responsibility.

· Work collaboratively with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.

· Participate in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs and people within your area of responsibility.

· Develop budgets for approval and assure adherence once budget is approved.

· Utilize previously technical, project management, and people management experience to actively lead strategic regional and global projects.

· Control of planning, staffing, budgeting, and managing expenses.

 

Requirements:

· Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, especially presentation skills.

· A deep understanding of how function relates to other functions and the business as a whole.

· An in-depth understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices.

· Experience in software development.

· Prior experience with developing budgets and controlling costs.

· A demonstrated ability to manage professional level employees and complex projects.

 

Responsibility and Interaction:

 

· Responsibility

o This position is responsible for managing a major segment of work within a broad functional area for a large country or countries, or global geographic area.

o This position directs and controls the activities of a group with significant content, product and/or project outcomes.

o The focus of this role is on translating functional strategies into operational plans and priorities. May develop functional strategies.

o The potential impact of decisions made by this individual has significant operational or financial impact on the overall success of the function or company outcomes.

o This individual will use in-depth knowledge to solve issues that are complex in scope, and establish medium to long- range plans.

o This individual is accountable for managing to assigned budget.

 

· Interaction

o This individual must demonstrate strong leadership skills by establishing clear goals, objectives and priorities that communicate the organization’s vision.

o Works with senior management and vice president level employees addressing issues across companies and functions.

o The position reports to a Vice President.

Experience
· A minimum of 10 years of experience as a people manager is required.

· Prior experience of working with government bodies is preferred.

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, critical projects is required.

Compensation
The base salary range for this position is [Hiring Range Min]–[Hiring Range Max] and will be determined by the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience, and education. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO), various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies.
