About the role:

Samsara is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing Infrastructure Platform team. As an Engineering Manager for our Operational Excellence Team, you will lead a team that designs and develops the infrastructure that powers Samsara’s connected operations cloud. This team’s missions is to provide teams with visibility and tooling to measure and improve their service health. As our infrastructure continues to grow and evolve, this team will be responsible for providing developer tools for best practices in order to ensure consistent quality of experience for our customers.

In this role, you will work on:

  • Leading the engineering team, shaping engineering culture, and providing technical guidance
  • Building infrastructure to ensure reliability of Samsara’s connected operations cloud under high loads.
  • Developing tooling for product teams to self-service and own operation of their services and storage in responsive and cost-effective ways
  • Creating abstractions for developers to understand their services health and adopt best practices to deliver the best customer experience in the industry
  • Actively contributing to building the roadmap for infrastructure at Samsara
  • Championing, role modeling, and embedding Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer
  • Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
  • Hiring, developing, and leading an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team
  • Our backend is written in Golang, runs on AWS, and is deployed using Terraform, though direct experience with these technologies is not required.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Built or worked on critical production systems using AWS (preferred) or Azure/GCP
  • Experience working with geo-distributed teams
  • Deep knowledge of operating distributed systems at large scale and implementation best practices
  • 8+ years of relevant software engineering work experience
  • 2+ years of hands-on technical management experience
  • 2+ years experience building platforms and managing multiple stakeholders
