About the role

The TPXimpact Digital Experience team is looking for someone with the energy, drive and enthusiasm to grow and develop our QA Engineering practice to deliver consistent quality assurance across the division.

Our work is with clients that deliver positive impact in the world, from public sector organisations like Health Education England to cultural heritage organisations like the National Trust to visitor attractions like the Southbank Centre to some of the UKs biggest charities like Unicef and Breast Cancer Now.

We’re looking to grow our QA practice and this role is a great opportunity to build and develop a team of QA Engineers and work to push our organisation to embrace modern approaches to quality assurance and test automation.

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will act as an advocate for QA best practices and guide initiatives to improve test processes, extend the use of tools/frameworks and support the development of your QA Engineering team.


You deliver high quality software solutions on large client projects (60%)

  • You work on our biggest public sector and large charity projects to develop the test strategies and testing plans
  • You work with the client and our team to identify and describe key risks from the requirements
  • You select the appropriate technology and approach for the level of testing to be delivered
  • You work other members of a multidisciplinary Agile team to develop test cases
  • You work directly on projects to develop and execute tests and feedback reports to the software development teams.
  • You are the advocate for quality and adherence to our standards on the projects you have responsibility for.
  • You keep the software development teams honest and push everyone to be the best they can be

You ensure an efficient, up-to-date and consistent approach to QA within the business (30%)

  • You set the standard about how your QA team interacts with the project management approach and other functions within the business
  • You research and introduce new tools and techniques into the business to ensure we are always updated with latest best practices
  • You champion and promote the use of test automation throughout the digital experience division
  • You present the effectiveness of our software output and its quality to agreed metrics
  • You oversee the quality of work of your QA team members
  • You show passion for keeping on top of current tools, standards and trends
  • You own and ensure the timely delivery of quarterly goals you are assigned to

You grow and develop a team of Quality Assurance Engineers (10%)

  • You support a team of 3 QA Engineers within our line management framework
  • You ensure every member of the team has an up-to-date personal development plan
  • You run a QA community of practice where the team can develop ideas and improve their discipline
  • You identify training opportunities, conferences and certifications that develops your team and gives them skills aligned with the improved processes
  • You ensure your team meets expectations and deadlines
  • You assist with the definition of the QA team scorecards, job descriptions and hiring processes


Essential skills & experience

  • Experience working on software projects as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Have previous line management experience and happy to give and receive feedback
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfortable giving feedback to software development teams
  • Comfortable discussing requirements and test strategies with clients
  • Have written test cases and acceptance criteria
  • Have developed test plans and strategies for large projects
  • Have demonstrable experience with having improved QA testing processes in other teams
  • Experience in compatibility testing mobile devices and cross browser
  • Experience with the creation and presentation of project test documentation
  • Experience with performance measurement and using load testing tools
  • Experience developing automated tests and have knowledge of common tools and frameworks
  • Experience of working with CI pipelines and the knowledge to set them up to support test automation
  • Experience of common SEO checks and services
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and experience of building tests for accessibility into projects
  • Knowledge of approach to security testing
  • Be an advocate for your craft with a passion for learning and improving

Desirable skills & experience

  • Experience working in a digital agency environment
  • Experience testing websites built with Content Management Systems such as Drupal, WordPress and/or Umbraco
  • Experience testing web applications developed in React
  • Experience with test case management tools
  • Have previous experience in improving the capabilities of a test team

Salary – £60,000 – £70,000 (Dependant on experience)
